The Drum & Bass Thread (formally Drum 'n' Bass is dead?)
The Drum & Bass Thread (formally Drum 'n' Bass is dead?) Posted on: 19.08.2008 by Random X Every now and than, a musical genres foremost poet or pioneer will come forth claiming the style is dead. We've already seen it in punk, hip hop, metal, rock and opera already. Stupidest thing even, that this seems to be some kind of "retro- cycle" that passes along every decade. With the coming of styles like dubstep amongst others, purists are really keen on claiming that these styles are no derative or subgenre of our beloved DnB. Better yet, they utter the words "DnB is dead!" If your own creative impulses can't cope with a style any longer, why claim it is dead in the first place? Couldn't it just evolve into other (sub)styles? No, kill your idols instead! There seems to be no better way to start something new, than completely destroy any relations with the past. How can a genre with high BPM rates be dead, while comparing it to the ever so low BPM rates of the ever so vivid dubstep? Ofcourse, BPM rates are not a factor in this case, but people listening and enjoying DnB are. There are still heaps and heaps of bass-heads still jumping their shoes to the sounds of d&b pioneers as Krush, Bukem, Dom & Roland and all others still producing. Agreed that the old spirit needs to be revived. Still, it's no reason to don the old lass after that much joy she has given us. Drum and Bass is dead? It seems ever so vibrant as it was in 1996! | |

Random X 06.11.2008 | Dammit, you might as well ask a duck to upload the Supermix, as it is more dead than Drum & Bass is. |
Virginia Ortiz 05.11.2008 | never a duck around when you need it huh |

Virginia Ortiz 04.11.2008 | @midian you should have offered them some ducks |
Ryan Morales 04.11.2008 | lol, mike was saying. Hope it gets fixed. No keyboard is litz. Talked to the guy about the residency, I'd been given the wrong impression by my mate who organised it :'[ He was looking for people to hold gigs rather then looking for a resident DJ. Caring tho, they mostly wanted RnB stuff, so I was like fail. TBH I'm nearly more interested in holding events, that way get to choose how it runs, and do cool shit. ps. DnB is soooo dead, like OMG!!!11one pps. Met the dumbest fucking girls last evening , like seriously fucking dumb. They actually talked like that. We were mocking them so hard in their face and they had no idea. They couldnt remeber my mates name, I said it like 2-3 times and she still couldnt remember it. God I feel sorry for guys who try to find a girlfriend from that tarded mess. |

Ryan Morales 03.11.2008 | Awesome! I was just believeing about how I needed a bag of ducks and a hose in order to take over the world. Btw, mean on the hookups. That would be cool to do something with tiki. Got an interview in 5 mins for a residency down here.! Woo. Also sorting some events out which you are coming down for (you have no choice). |
Virginia Ortiz 03.11.2008 | dw i did it. but eat the ducks anyway. ive been saving them for a time such as this |

Ryan Morales 02.11.2008 | Its an ok track imo... kinda clownshoe, but I can see how it could work in a mix. Its just my overall problem with clipz (/tc/hazard/distored minds). Its got that whole early jungle/jumpup minimal production vibe with focus on the big warbaling sine-bass-line, which is cool, but rather then being epic imo it just becomes cheesy imo. The chord progressions are so blatant and stepped, no decay or blending or anything, just da da da, da da da, da da da, da da da da... like a kid whos just learnt to play piano. A would probably KO myself after any more then 30 mins of a jumpup set like that. Thrown down into something else they can be ok, a nice break if you wish, kinda like throwing some jungle into a techstep/neuro mix... |
Dj Daxsen 02.11.2008 | I heard Clipz - Slippery Slope in a mix and it went off! Dope track. |
Ryan Morales 02.11.2008 | On another note! Heres a better version of the Collective logo! Use it mofo, that one bugs me hard! |
Ryan Morales 02.11.2008 | Mostly shithouse.... but has a few tracks that slam face hard. Not in my top100 (or even close) but played out I have seen them own crowds. Hes in the same league as Clipz, DJ Hazard, Distorted Minds, DJ Fresh (on his more cheesy tracks) etc... jump-up basically. There are some OK tracks but most are cheesy as fuck. Some pretty good Jump-up tracks that can slam face by such artists: TC - Wheres My Money Clipz - Rubbish Hazard - Machete Dillinja - Grimey (Clipz Remix) Distorted Minds - T-10 (Dillinja Remix) DJ Die & Dillinja are two pretty oldschool motherfuckers who do a lot of work with Clipz, which I find fk'n weird as I rekon that kinda Jump Up is pretty shit bar a few tracks, and I have MOST of them. A kinda cheesy jumpup track (and producer) I'm liking at the moment is Callide. I rekon his tracks are pretty fucking stompy, even if they are somewhat clownshoe. eg: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lp4BvpAIME |
Virginia Ortiz 02.11.2008 | so does anyone like TC? (please say no) i have no respect for the guy... |
